Senior Manager
Vera Janjic-Watrich is the Senior Manager in the Early Years Branch at Alberta Education and is currently involved in K-4 curriculum development. She is presently the Alberta Education representative for the ECEC Provincial Council. She holds a PhD, Master’s Degree, Diploma, and a B. Ed (Special Education) from the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Elementary Education. Dr. Janjic-Watrich received the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship award for her study related to young adolescent’s perspectives on their reading. She has extensive experience in teaching and learning as a literacy consultant, reading specialist, and remediation specialist at the classroom and district level, and more recently as a university sessional instructor for undergraduate courses in education in the area of elementary language arts and reading. Throughout her career, she has provided leadership, coaching and mentorship to teachers, students, and parents. She has publications in a variety of journals on the topic of language and literacy. Dr. Vera Janjic-Watrich has always been a strong advocate for the voice of children and for providing opportunities for them to learn through play, inquiry, and exploration.
