Physical Literacy is an important skill that is in severe decline in our younger generations due to shifting societal norms and the de-emphasization of physical play. Throughout this session, attendees will learn about what physical literacy is, how to apply it to their classes, and the benefits for all when it is included.

Nick Reilly is a teacher at Balwin School for Edmonton Public Schools. He has taught a wide variety of subjects including PE, and has taken a number of courses surrounding Physical Literacy and its implementation in his program.

Loose Parts Play at Recess
During this session, Ever Active Schools will introduce you to a step-by-step process that you can use to create a unique loose parts play kit. Perhaps you are starting small and want to create a box of materials you can take out each day for your students to play with, or maybe you want to enrich a larger play space with loose parts. It doesn’t matter how big or small your budget or plans are, you’ll find the tips and guidelines to make it happen.In this session we’ll:1. Explore the multiple benefits of loose parts play for children’s well-being and development through a comprehensive school health lens2. Consider the practicalities of implementing loose parts play in your setting3. Answer common questions and provide information and resources to help you gain support for your loose parts play project

Building Bodies for Happy Children to Become Happy Productive Adults
This session is designed to empower teachers with skills to better engage children in the physical play needed for gross motor play.  Participants will actively become their students and learn through play.  Activities will impact physical well being and self-regulation, all through a foundation of with fun games and learning through play.  Teachers will walk away with visuals, games, activities and a sample lesson plan where they can embed the activities they have learned into action.

The Emotional Value of Risky Play
Recently, there has been a lot of attention brought to the important role of risky play in
the lives of young children. In this session, we will take a look at the support for risky play
in the forms of play charters and position statements in addition to the importance of the
mindset of the caregiver around this active engaged type of play. By understanding the
elements of brain science that are enhanced with risky play, we are better able to set up
environments and have conversations with both children and adults. Come take a risk as
